Enclosed is a review and mounting walkthru of the Gerber Gater Combo Axe, Model # GB-49470. It can be seen

here:http://www.knivesplus.com/gerber-gator-axe-gb-49470.html for $29.97.

Axe in packaging...Includes a knife stowed in handle

opposite side of package

axe with knife out.

..It is magnetically connected to handle...so it will not fall out

drill hole in knife handle to attach a lanyard

de-burr hole

attach lanyard, cauterize end of string

like so

real life weight of axe, knife and lanyard = ~1 lb 5.5 oz

will mount here on panniers

drill thru axe head. Stainless steel by the way

lot’s of chips

de-burr holes

for polished look

pannier attach hole

check grip length of fastener

using this tool

goto fastener bin, using hex head and wing nuts for easy removal, yet tamper proof

as attached

closeup of 2x attach fasteners

inside view.. See wing nuts..I also coated the panniers with white bed liner material...no regrets to that mod

need to add a blade guard about here

prep for install

guard as installed

can access the knife only with lid up...no one can swipe the knife

all locked up with keyless lock system...Great mod also

Standoff view
Review:
1. Nice to have an axe for long distance travels
2. Can be used as a hammer
3. No axe metal contacts the panniers
4. Not really cut anything with the axe, but blade is sharp and seems to be well balanced for light duty work
5. Knife in handle may come in handy
6. Can still take a passenger, as the mount does not interfere with 2 up riding
