I was wondering where I should go for a ride next summer. Google says just about 2800 miles from my place...

As they say "Well worth the Ride" IMHO...I've been twice now and enjoyed it both times!  I plan on going back in 2014 if my old body will allow.....but this time possibly on a bobber!!! Ride on!

I've started to broach the idea to my boss. "How about I take off for most of June and July next year?" No reply yet, but I figure that means he hasn't said "No" either.

Read up on some of the posts here and ADVRider. One thing i will do before June 2013 is to arrange for new tire(s) to be waiting for me in Whitehorse or Tok. I spent large last year to replace a rear skin and then a front....all at inflated far north prices. And it took a bit of running around in Whitehorse just to find tires that fit the KLR.
Most BC and Yukon gov't campsites provide firewood..but you will need a hatchet/small axe to get pieces for kindling. If you get a small liteweight backpacker type of dual fuel stove ( coleman530 white gas/pump gas) you can whip up meals for cheap and the stoves and a small pan or pot dont take up much pace.
Wish ya luck on getting time off to do the ride....and make it a safe one.

IF you get in touch with "The DICK" over at ADV, he sometimes lets people send tires up to him for the D2D and all he asks is a bottle of wine per tire for storage costs.....better deal than buying up there...imho. I carried mine last year and after a bit of getting used to it, not too bad. standing_by

Just ordered new led mini lights for the KingBee...adv monster model# 60...3600 lumens
That unit and last years 2000 lumen unit together will help me spot those pesky elk..moose and deer whilst riding in the semi darkness in the Yukon and Northern BC. Last Junes near collision on the Alcan just east of the Northern Rockies Resort was as close as I ever want to come to annhilation. The young Alaskan ex army vet following me in his Nissan saw the action...and if I didn't have the extra light from his headlites it would have been elk 1 - Klr 0. At the next fuel stop we both met and had a few yuks over just how close
I came.

The extra lighting makes for easy camp set up at night..anytime.

Going with mounting on the lower front cowling stays...somebody posted their pics of that set up and it looks trick.

So I am now intrigued by this ride.  Where do I find all the information about it, where's it start? time frame? Map? ETC.

I might go and fake my own death so I can clear the time for a month or so.

Go over to ADVRIDER.com and go to the Alaska section....it will be all there. It is around the summer solstice roughly June 20-21 depending.....all out of Dawson City.....it is just a huge meet, swap stories, meet like minded riders, a great dinner and well worth the ride....Plain and simple! While you're up there you need to do the Dempster up to Inuvik....the furthest north a person can get in Canada by road of any kind not including the ice roads. That's cheating...lol.  Again....well worth it.
So go over and grab a beverage, you will need a few to get through the mountains of reading on this subject. I will be there in 2014 if all the stars line up perfectly once again! standing_by
Pm me if you like.....I've been twice already and once the far north gets under your skin....you're screwed!  In all the best ways! Cheers!

I'm tentative for the D2D. As of today, it looks like I'm going to be heading up from MSP to Deadhorse, AK with some stops in between. The main snag at the moment is that the tentative vacation negotiations with the boss have me heading through Dawson City on the way home about a week before D2D.

The sign-up thread (with information) for it on ADV is here.
