that sounds like a fun trip to take  Awesome  I knew most the roads up in Algonquin were off limits and I just know how much fun I'd have trying to tow a canoe behind the KLR across the border  ROTFL  I fly fish, not exactly ood at it but I have fun with it. Maybe we should try and plan something for next year, maybe the end of August after the black flies have moved on ....

Did I mention the Horse flies that come in after the black flies????  Its a no win situation.... so just have to keep the Deet handy.  I'll keep a trip north in mind..........I'll see about some maps when we're up there in a few weeks.

the last few times I was up there, around the last week in august, the flies and bugs weren't bad at all as long as you stayed out of the deep woods. I have a few maps, but mostly of just the park up there.

Late Aug. early Sept. is the best time all around.  Good scenery, good fishing and the bugs and temperatures are usually agreable......as long as you stay out of the deep woods, yes!  We're going to have to work on something!  I'll get back to you.

a new job shortens my time off so Moab next year is out and the lab trip might be in. If I do it's going to be about the end of August sometime, I figure the black flies won't be quite so bad then.

Hey

Just to give you a taste...

Did labrador last summer but with a twist...The objective was Shefferville (N54 49.151 W66 49.506), What is the twist you ask? well... there are no roads into Schefferville.

We were 4 KLR's 2 KTM's and 1 GSadventure

It was quite the challenge, lots of mileage, many flat tires, fuel concerns and a few mechanical problems (i.e. dead rear shock etc...) The 2 KTM's hit some bad luck, one had to abandon for mechanical reasons and the other left in an ambulance...but he is ok now...

This was one of the small ones... Doh!

Went from Montreal to the Manic5 power Dam to Labrador City to Chuchill falls to Esker and then 40 miles of riding on the railroads.

Here's a video, there are some parts in french but I'm sure you'll get the jiist of it...

It's also illegal up here but there is no road between esker and shefferville so you have to go on tracks for 40 miles. That's how you scrap suspension and FRAMES.Isn't it Reddevil???

As for the illegality of this action, you may be right, but this railroad is owned by the Montagnais native people and we did get their permission to ride the tracks. (WE would not have rode it without that permission). The cool thing about them is that they fed us and even sold us some gas when we were on the return leg of the trip.

There was also some level of peace of mind, as we rode the tracks on the weekend when no trains are scheduled.

As for suspension, only one of the buddies had the problem (red KLR) and oddly enough he was the only one that rode the tracks sitting down most of the way...we felt at the time thet perhaps by keeping the weight on the rear wheel resulted in the shock taking the brunt of it...

As for frame issues, there were none. With respect to mechanical issues on this trip I was pretty fortunate, My only concern came from having destroyed a brand new rear tire in 1 day...

Excellent adventure guys!!

Great videos too....I would love to do such an adventure one day on the KLR.
I've travelled high up in Ontario with my Jeeps but never on the KLR as of yet. It is truely a different world up there for sure!  people are a different sort altogether. They are much friendlier and willing to accomodate others whereas down here it's all about yourself and not so much helping others with open arms. What a shame.
Again...excellent vids and adventure!

Maybe one day....?

say the word willys, I'd take a ride to churchill falls with you, that would be a blast. At the moment long road trips are going to be tough, I just changed jobs and am down to just one week vacation time  Sad So ..... I probably will stick to within maybe a 500 mile radius next year.

Thanks!

It would be great to do a similar ride one of these days with some boys from ''our'' south of the border...

As for the people in those areas, I must say you are quite right...a different breed all together especially the people from Labrador. I stilll can't get over it. Pretty much anytime we stopped in remote areas, vehicles would stop to see if we needed help.

At one point we were a bit low on gas and a gentlemen offered to give us the contents of a 5 gallons gas tank, we nearly had to force him to take the money.

And on another occasion one of the our riding buddies had a rear sproket issue in Wabush, the motorcycle shop was closed. Stopping at a C-store we asked the attendant if they knew somebody that could help. He started calling people he knew one after the other until he reached the owner of the shop (which he didn't know) right on the golf course. The guy left his game and opened up the shop just for my buddy... super

Yep a different breed...
