Possible rides in 09...?

OK...who's interested in backroads touring?
I would like to get as many as possible rides going next season. Something like the spring Haliburton ride. Perhaps a ride around Georgian Bay, through Magantiwan Island and back down the east side of the Bay. Or....a round trip through or around Algonquin Park. Perhaps a ride far north...just to see what's up there? A Quebec ride? A ride to the Thousand Islands? A ride to watch the offroading in Perry Sound? A backroads trip to the Falls? Even a Port Dover ride if that's your style...was interesting last year...strange but interesting.
You get the picture....try and get more rides going instead of just riding around the neighborhood.
Get some overnight rides, some with camping overnight, maybe a cheap motel?
What do you say?
Interested?
If so...post up...let me know what you want to do or go and lets try and get something organized.
Nothing too expensive...keep it to a relatively modest budget. That way we can do more than one a season....lol
So how bout it???

That's great Gunny...you're #1 on the list for the US team!! lol
It just seems there is no action going on in the Ontario section here for some reason...we have hundreds of KLRs in Ontario and no-one is talking here??? Why?
So...lets get it started.

Uh .... it's so cold the molsen xxx has frozen to their hands, or perhaps hockey season has started ....
I'm work dependent myself, certain weekends are better than others. If you do organize willys, just set a date, the guys that can come, will.

Algonquin would be my choice, maybe enter the park at gate 2 near petwawa and ride out to traverse lake for a base camp and some fishing , shine bright flashlights at the canadian military choppers when they buzz the lake late at night . There are a couple of transit roads near there that can be rode on for a decent distance out towards one of the observatories.

Gunny souinds like you know more about the park than i do...lol I think the last time i was there I was in highschool and that was the summer that couple got eaten on Lake Opiongo . We were at the same island the week before them and capsized our canoe.
I didn't know you could ride inside the park very far off the main highway? I'll have to find some maps of the backroads in the park? Or is that just either before or after the park bounderies?
I was wondering what to do there other than have a good campout etc.
Let me know what else you know..

See what happens when these yanks come up here and suck down a few molsens...they hallocinate and have flashbacks of the good old days war making!!!
We don't have a military that would make a dent at a fleamarket! ...If we did have a hellecopter it would be radio controled...lol Christ...lol We buy old ships and whirly birds that are outdated before we get them!!!
We had the best fighter in the world and our dumbass squashed the program!!!
No offence to anyone who is serving at the present!

A couple were camping on an Island on Lake Opyongo, it's a large long lake where most canoe trips start from in the centre of the park. They camped on the island at the middle side of the lake and were just sitting around the campfire I guess, and a large Black bear, male came up and dragged the female off and her man was beating it with a paddle to try and stop it, as the busted paddle was near his body when they found them. They were both mauled badly and she was chewed some too! It was a huge thing at the time...the wardens shot the bear once they found it, so they say, if they got the right one, and that was the end of it. We had canoed to the top of the lake and portaged to the next lake and camped on a small island in that lake...only to have a moose run our tent over in the middle of the night! Yep...the 3 of use s--- our draws that night for sure! you could hear and feel this thing crashing through the trees and sounded like a tank as it got closer. it was huge, male with a huge rack! Hit the tent and then dove into the water and steamed off like a tug boat! huge wake at it's neck! Amazing! While portaging you could hear movement all the time just past eye range following you in the bush...a very scarey feeling...we nearly turned back and said screw it! It would follow you and stop every time you stopped..! I walked with a hunting knife out at all times....not that it would have done much i'm sure! I have never gone back to that lake since either.
When we were kids ...the family used to go and camp overnight at the camping sites...then at dusk everyone would drive to the dump and wait....to see the bears...they were huge!
So...who's up for a camp site in the park???? Tenting...bring your own bear spray...or treats...just let me know which so i can decide either to camp next to you or away from you!!! lol
Tobermory is a great place too.....just too many snakes for me...lol I'm not a snake type of guy...if it ain't got legs..it ain't suppose to be able to move!!!!! lol
But we won't be camping at Tobermory, but on the other side I would imagine..that way to be able to get the ferry and then not have to worry again about catching it ....unless we make it a two night trip! Then anythings a go.

While you're in the Petawawa area, you could cross over on the Quebec side and go up in the Pontiac thru Fort Coulonge/Davidson.Hundreds of kilos. of forest access and bush roads up there. Enough to run out of fuel anyway. You can get up to Temiskaming and come back down the Ontario side. July or August are the best times. No black flies and less log trucks on the road. I've been up there a few times relocating bears.

I wish I could make one of the rides. Too bad I can't take off until after the 26th of June and in August I'm planning on the TLH. Maybe next time.
