All,

I just wanted to post a big Thumbs-Up to Susie at Happy Trails.

Upon the recommendation of this thread, I wanted to order up the Happy-Trail version of the KLR shifter lever, but found that the website only offered one shipping option...read, expensive.

Whatever, the shifter looked great, and I went ahead and placed the order.

Within a day, I got an e-mail from Susie, asking if I minded if she sent it USPS, since that would be cheaper/faster for such a small package.

No problemo, says I.  "How will it be cheaper"?  I ask.

This morning, there was a new message saying that my CC will be charged $5.10 less, and that part will arrive sooner!

I said I'd pass this new on to some KLR sites, but you probably knew this already, if my guess is right.;-)

Good tip Shane. I still have the stocker afte just over a year or so. I will be doing the switch at some point and your experience matters in what choice I make. Sounds like Vendor recommendation to me...

 Cheers!

It looked great on your bike, Hondo. I may be in the market soon, after I change my fork seals

Good to meet you yesterday.

Could not get the link to work. I just bought this shifter but was curious how it compared to the dualstar and MSR shifters I have seen for around the same price?

I also picked up a 14t and 16t sprockets:) I think I am look forward to the 16t sproket to move those long hauls through WY go a little faster rayof

I'll fix the link.

I have a extended length IMS shifter, very nice quality too.

Found the review on the home page.

You replace your happytrails with the IMS when it smacked your case?

No, I had to get the longer IMS lever after I lowered my pegs and started riding in Thor Quadrant boots- just not enough room with the stock length.

Okay help me understand something.  When I go down, wouldn't that nice purty solid looking shifter potentially damage the seals or heaven forbid the left case because it "did not" give?  Its a lot easier to re-bash a shifter into working alignment while out and about then the other....

What am I missing?

I have seen stock shift levers punch holes in cases also.

You simply gain the benefit of having a shift lever that will not fail, like the stock shifters are prone to do. You also get positive gear changes as there is no play in the lever.

I have the IMS and it allows my big feet/boots to shift as well as it provides a more positive shift.

I have dropped my bike on the Happy Trails shifter a bunch of times off road & it didn't break or bend.

When I dropped the bike in the garage however, the shifter creased the case, which I repaired easily with JB Weld. The pad on the shifter stopped it from penetrating.

A stock shifter would have made a nice hole.

My reason for wanting a new shifter is that the stock shifter has a history of breaking and if it breaks, your done. At least if the happy trails breaks i will now have a spare Happy!

Some things you wait to upgrade after you break the original but this is one of those thing you want to upgrade before it breaks unless you happen to carry a spare shifter.
