I signed onto ridadventure.ca and got the tracks despite not being able to read what I was doing That's funny !
The track running along the US border looks interesting.  Might be a good ride to together is schedules fit
From what I understand on Touche's latest ADVride post the run along the border (red line on Touche's map) should not require any special permits for running on ATV trails

You're right! These roads are gravel public roads.Green line needs ATV permits, but most of them in the north section can be done without it,due to free acces to the Public Land. They can't charges you a fee if you're going on a public road that is running onto Public Land. We've done  miles on few roads of that maps last year and we went through few places with ATV attendants without being ask for any permits or money. My guess is they don't look too much for permits or pass if you dont do no harm to trails.
We'll have to look forward to fix a meeting sometime.Snow's melting now...

Yes! Fantastic, they have done a great job with this thing. I can jump on it 40 miles North from my house and take it all the way through the Outaouais region. Perfect. Right now I am looking for a riding partner to do the more remote parts ( Paul, you out there? ). To me it doesn't matter how long it takes to get there if the riding is good.

A couple of questions:

1) Near Montreal it looks like it goes through St-Eustache, are the roads busy over there? Or are there quiet back roads, I've only been there once for the Vintage Bike races.

2) I looked at the Quad Site and it seemed to be that they do not want motorcycles on their trails. I don't mind buying a pass but I don't want to cause any hard feelings either.

I did look at the area around the 204. Last year I road from Lac Megantic over to St George ( sorry I don't have a map in front of me right now ) on a small dirt road that paralleled the 204. According to my Garmin software it does show some other small roads along the 204 running East of St G. None the less sometimes real world I've found some of those small roads to be closed.

DGstoll, if you are going to ride some of that eastern parts of that loop and you'd like some company I would be interested.

Blues

Well ,too bad it was that crowded...
For the Outaouais region, did you take a look on the ridaventure site??They made a 2009 version of the "Raidaventure". and it crosses the region you're looking after.

My girlfriend and I are probably be making the whole loop this summer during our vacation.4 300 km(2 800 miles),almost all dirt roads,I'll be happy.I'll probably make a photo report on this one.

I sat down Sat. night with a Mapart Deluxe Quebec Atlas and the gpx tracks in Google Earth and marked the route on the atlas map from Lac Megantic to the northern tip of Maine.  The Atlas and GE worked well together.
I usually take vaction time in 2nd week on Aug or this could be a nice leaf tour in end of Sept.
There is one part towards Picard where the atlas shows only a dotted line.  Not sure if it is gravel road or atv trail.
what think ye?

Not sure what "Picard" you're talking about??
Any villages around or routes that can lead me to it??

I see a wildly squiggly road heading east from Picard, that looks pretty cool, always a good sign. Not too far from Riviere-du-loup. I'll check on City Nav tonight.

DGstoll, I had no real time frame in mind for doing a trip to the east, ie Lac Megantic. I have to take the 2nd week of July off and will probably do the Outaouais trip at that time because it coincides with the Ottawa Blues Fest. I thought I might do a second trip up to the Saguanay Fjord and spend a little more time in that area. Usually I play in a golf tournament in Montreal the 3rd week of August, which is the big event of the year for me, and our club cccofvt is putting on an Adventure ride Sept 20th, other than that I'm wide open.

City Nav wasn't too much help w/ Picard, nor did it show anything along the 204 east of St Georges.

I'm about a full days ride from Lac Megantic on dirt, anyone up for a get together/ride from there? Late summer/fall? DG, there is a nice hotel on the water, reasonable, I've stayed there a couple times. Great little diner across the street. If so maybe we should start a separate thread to organize that. The Ridaventure Raid must go by there or pretty close ( I've not been able to open the route yet, still trying to figure that out ).

Hello Blues.

Are you figuring a way to travel west from St-Eustache to reach Ottawa?  If so ... are you looking at road 344?  This road can be busy ... with bikes on week-end.  Good scenic road.  Other than bikes, since the autoroute 50 is near to open, it may clear from all other trafic in the near futur!

It was the part from Rt 287 headed up towards Picard
When near Escourt Station which is on the Maine border I would probably head back thru Maine due to time constraints. I would only have 2-3 days to ride

DG, are you thinking 2-3 day total from Maine or once you got to Lac-Megantic? I'm going to start a seperate thread for a possible L-M trip and see if we can get something going.

Lac Meganitic is about a 1/2 day ride from my place...there are so many roads running along the Raid route.  The ride could head east and turn around and head back in the same general direction on differnent roads...I'd say go ahead and start a new thread

Well, after looking for that "picard " village a long time, can't tell u where it is.I have seen Estcourt, the 287 but no picard... and for the dotted line,is it the red dotted line???or a blue one that goes to Pelletier??Some of those dotted lines are Bicycles ways(ex:from Riv-du-loup to,say Degelis, there's one called Parc linéaire interprovincial Petit Témiscouata. This goes throught N-B a long way too.)

I'm in for a long week-end ride in the south of the Eastern Tonwships.
Can look for something West too!

I'll try to locate an adress for the ATV map or a site that shows trails that can be used by motorcycles.

Pelletier sounds familiar. For a weekend ride, maybe just ride east as far as gravel roads go and return on alt route, see response to new thread

Ok, the plan is coming together. Due to some scheduling challenges I'm doing a series of shorter rides this year. Originally I'd planned a week plus trip with a swing down through upstate NY but as it works out I've got to fit it into 4 days, so;

July 12th Vermont to Montebello, QC
July 13th Montebello QC to Fort Coulonge QC
July 14th Fort C to Ottawa
I'm planning to hit the Ottawa Blues fest for one night, planning to see The Yard Birds ( Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page have all played with this group over the years ), and the Zombies.
July 15th Back to Vermont

Anyone interested in getting together along the way, let me know. I plan to do as much dirt as possible but am not much for camping these days so I typically stay at B&Bs along the way.
