Has anyone rode the "Forestry Trunk Road"? I've looked at this on maps for 30 years and always wanted to ride it but never got the chance. Looks like the ideal DS ride. It runs along the eastern foothills of Banff and Jasper parks from the TCH up to Grande Cache or there abouts. Looks like it should be dirt and rather remote. Any ride reports on this?

I have ridden the top end near Grande Prairie. It is a good road. Lots of side roads to explore if you like.

I haven't ridden it, but I've driven (in a Subaru, a.k.a. Auto DS!) it from Coleman, Alberta in the south to the Trans Canada Highway #1. Great road! Lots of places to explore off the beaten path. Check out the Alberta Dual Sport Motorcycle Club @ www.ADSMC.ca for some ideas of where to ride in the area. It is a remote road, but if you make a right/east turn you'll be back in civilization soon enough.
BTW - What's a Tar Heel state resident doing with a GT handle, Hmmmmm...? LOL! Too funny!

If you do ever plan to visit us up here in Alberta, drop a line...

ringram67, thanks for the post. As I said, I've wondered about that road for 30 years or more. I've been in that area twice, '77 & '87 on trips to Alaska. Getting a little too lame and slow to do it again. I would like to have spent a whole summer in BC, soooo much to see there. As for the Yellow Jacket, just see my avitar. Figured that would be easy for people to remember. I used to have one that was a little harder to remember.

Hey Yellow Jacket,
You're never too lame or slow - think more mature and steady Wink!. As for the long ride, you could always trailer it up then hit the good roads. And, if you're retired, time shouldn't be an issue. Besides, they don't call them "adventure" bikes  for nothing - live the adventure Ride on!!
BTW - Isn't 67 the new 42! If the maths right, that would make me, hum thinking......16. Crap, now I can't drink  Doh!!

ringram67, You never know, maybe some day. BTW, I just rode the Blue Ridge Parkway end to end which got me to thinking, wouldn't it be neat to ride the TCH end to end? I see you are in Medicine Hat. I know I passed through there on my first ride to Alaska but don't remember anything about the town except the odd name.

Hey Yellow Jacket,

When my family moved to Athens, GA in 1982 (dad was on a sabbatical @ UGA) we drove for a while along the BRPW - some of the prettiest country anywhere! I personally have driven the TCH, in sections, from the Maritimes all the way to British Columbia. Each section has its own beauty with my personal faves being Montreal, Quebec (home), Lake Superior, and the Rockies West through BC. Even the prairies (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta) have their own "special" charm. But don't expect US Interstates; some of the TCH is still two-lane - that's one lane in EACH direction. It's never too late to live the adventure: Go DAWGS!
