Follow manufacturers guidelines and I find myself on the freeway doing 40mph. How strict do I need to be in following the book?

Hey Daz. I asked the dealer the same question. He just laughed and said just don't stay at the same speed for extended periods of time. He also said 600 miles was enough to start modifying it. Good luck and enjoy. I'm a big guy and I am having a ball on this bike.  I'm cruizin'

I don't want to tell you how to, but a few things you have to do:
- Let it warm up properly before starting your ride
- Do not lug the motor
- Do vary engine revs when running for extended distances
- Do change your oil and filter at 50, 100 and 250 miles

I ran my 650 at no more then the 4000 rpm factory recommendations, but if I had to do it all over again, first 50 miles I would take it easy, change oil and filter and then ride it like I stole it (but not lugging and by varying RPM).

After the first three oil changes I would switch to synthetic.
