Hey guys
The reason for this post was from personal experience and do not agree with being charged on the spot with out your day in court.
Here's what happened:
Myself and my brother were out riding around Ottawa about two months ago we were doing the speed limit when my brother stood on his pegs to adjust his pants (wedgy- we've all done it) out of nowhere on come the lights. We pull over the cop goes directly to my brothers bike and PULLS the key out of the ignition. Long story short my brother was charged with street racing and stunting, his bike was impounded and license taken on the spot. He is fighting it in court but his court date is not for another 3 months. In the mean time it cost him close to a thousand dollars for the bike between impound fees for a week and tow charges. And $2500 fine for stunting. Street racing was $5000. And suspended license.
So my take on this is with the street racing law in Ontario people are being charged and fined with outrages charges because the police in my opinion have to much freedom with this new law. Not to mention I got a $200 fine because I got aggravated with the police officer because he wouldn't explain to us why he was being charged as well as a threat of being charged with street racing myself.
This is basically what the law states
HTA 172
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/sta...08_e.htm#BK245
What it covers (more than doing 50kph over the limit).

I forgot to mention my brother is 36 years old with a wife and 2 kids. The guy is a responsible driver/rider. He never had a speeding, parking ,or for that matter any type of ticket before this. This incident has caused a lot of grief for him and his family.

In the Communiations business, customers are known as "RGU's". I think some police think of us as RGU's too. (Revenue Generating Unit)
Sounds like you two got a raw deal from your description. I have to admit that on the other hand there are so many crotch rocketeers giving motorcyclists a bad name that something should be done to save lives. Yin/Yang thing ya knw, god/bad, light/dark, cold/hot. You know the drill.

That is a bit extreme IMHO. Hopefully you get a reasonable judge and can clear this thing up.
Good luck.

We have a new police commissioner and this was his contribution to the "safety of the public". We already have pretty harsh speed fines and legislation to cover the idiots who ride like they own the road.
DVD Scott..not the first ridiculous story I've heard about the "street racing" law. From what I hear a lot of cases are tossed because they are ridiculous....I agree, sounds like a court date. Too bad about your brother having to deal with an a-hole cop on a power trip.

johnny law anint takin no prisinors .... They crack down on the kids with their fart canned muffler cars and the 16 yr old, no brains, mommy and daddy bought me a 160 mph bike because they are brain dead crowd. We, the responsible riders get caught in the cross fire. For a year or so the syracuse 5.0 was stopping just about any bike they saw even weave a little because a trooper pulled a boneheaded stunt by trying to chase down a crotch rocket while driving a full size chevy blazer down a twisty two lane .... the trooper smacked a tree head on at 70 mph..... truly sad but stupid at the same time'
Sad to say but yur gonna have to probably deal with some stupid kids mistake for awhile.

Certainly a hot topic! There was a phase at one time something like, "keep honest folks honest" or there abouts. Then again there is good and bad in every industry just like enforcement. I personally think if you're in the right, you'll know it and not just push to get off a charge. Same for the LEOs.
Keep us posted.

I had two sport bikes blow past me on the freeway last year doing wheelies in t-shirts and shorts. A minute later a CHP was behind me asking me to pull over. He said a call came in from another CHP going the opposite direction that a couple guys were doing 90 mile and hour wheelies.
I'm in full touring gear and I'm one guy.
I told him my bike couldn't do that if I wanted to and that I saw TWO guys blow past me a minute earlier. He wasn't interested in listening to what I had to say and asked for my paperwork. When he was at his car running my info, some thing came on his radio and he ran back to me with my paperwork and took of without a word.
I'm sure if that call didn't come in, he would have written me a big fat ticket and I would have had to defend myself in court. Local PD is OK, but CHP has turned into a revenue machine; they don't even stop 1/2 the time for broken down cars anymore.
Good luck to your brother.

My great riding buddy is a cop 20+ years in.... Tactical Sniper, Weapons Trainer, asskicker, good cop that might pull you over for doing something questionable but if you're a decent guy and don't come up as a s---rat on his computer search, you'll probably ride away smiling.
Traffic cops are there to hand out tickets and will generally do so at every opportunity, and to the letter of their understanding, with no mercy, especially if there's a big media campaign on! It's a numbers game- write 100 tickets and a few get defended and thrown out- so what. On my sportbike I get pulled over ALL the time, no matter what I'm driving like. Especially in the Spring. This year I got followed
home
twice... you'd think I had dynamite strapped to my chest with a big clock attached.
On the KLR it's a different story, so it's obvious there's targetting and discrimination, but it's been earned by idiots, and you can't really blame Traffic Cops for doing their job....... BUT, you have a right to defend yourself, and you SHOULD defend yourself. If not for yourself, it at least contributes to the idea that not all people riding are jerkoffs. I've seen lots complain and whine but just pay the fine
Go speak to the 1st prosecutor in Traffic Court and tell him the story (well before the Court date), with as much evidence as possible. Have your story typed out,
written well
(ie: not "that pig pulled me over" etc) and tell him you're prepared to fight this with a very good traffic lawyer. Many times this stuff never reaches Court. If he doesn't throw it out, fight it. Talk to the ex-police guys that retired and now fight this kind of BS first.
Petition signed, good luck.
BTW we have one of your ex-chiefs out here in Edmonton waving a similar flag now. Even the cops don't like him.
