Options...!  Take a look at DuluthTrading.com   I bought a balaclava there and a face gaiter. I like both!

I will check on the brand that I am using once I get home (I didn't need it on my ride today thank goodness).  One feature that I will stress, though, is the forehead seam.  In my book, any balaclava with a center seam is suspect.  Most of the nowadays use a flat seam there, but even then it becomes a pressure point in a helmet after a while.  I prefer a design that uses two top seams (one extending back from near each temple).  With this design, the pressure from the weight of the helmet is not fully bearing down on a single seam, so it becomes less of an issue.  If you're lucky and find the right one, then it becomes a non-issue.

I will look at mine tonight and post.  As I recall it was not terribly expensive, but it does a really good job.

Looking at mine now ...it has two flat seams landing about where one might part his/her hair. I've never felt it while riding. There is directional vent on the nose so you exhaust down through a mesh panel. These folks are not a MC shop but do lean towards a lot of gear that is MC friendly. I have spent way too much money with them!  Great gloves too!

Keep an eye on the Sierra Trading Company web site.  Balaclava by Outdoor research and by Lowe Alpine (my favorite) are good.  I use them from riding to doing my winter backpacking treks.  You can find some good deals from Sierra.  I have more gear than brains, but at least I never pay full price.  Depending on you helmet, I'll suplement my balaclava with a lower face mask I picked up from REI.

i like the one from alpinestars because it fits really deep into your jacket, so no air leaks.

You can always look at Blackhawk or LA Police Gear.  The tactical gear is usually really tough and durable.

klim makes a great one.  Windproof material on the front and back, wicking material on the top.  I use it for snowmobiling, and commuting on the interstate.  Works great!

there's this little greek place down the road that makes the best baclava you ever tasted .... oh wait ..... you meant the one you wear  ROTFL    Try looking of NOJ, they make a dealio that attaches directly to the helmet, blocks the wind, rain and other nasty stuff. Has a venting section built in that you can open to suit your needs.

I wear one these suckers (though granted I don't ride much in the winter, except for a trip in a few weeks). You can pull it up and make a balaclava out of it or wear it as a neck gaiter or tie into a doo-rag - very versatile. Thin, fits under a helmet nicely and wool so it doesn't get stinky. A bit spendy but very well made and I suspect it will last a long time. Merino wool is not itchy and it's pretty sturdy stuff.

You can find them all over the web.

I have a cheapie balaclava in black nylon from the local MC shop for a wind breaker, but my best buy was Turtle Fur's neck warmer - makes winter riding no sweat!  Keeps my neck and lower face comy, while leaving the head bare for better helmet fit.
