All those post in that section of the forum refer to a second, third, fourth, ... "N" bike  wings

Here, where I live, a set of plate for one bike cost $600 a year (that's for the klr, if you a "sports bike", it's more in the range of $1500), and I'm not talking about insurance yet or driver license fee ...  Arrrrg! banghead soapbox
(for reference, $ canadian against $ foreign, my 2009 klr, brand new, costed me $6000 OTD)

So for us, to get more than one bike, you need to have a pretty good job with a pay that's high up their ...  smoking smoking smoking

So, for all of you who can afford a second, third ... and so on ... bike, consider yourself lucky !!!

So I'm going in the other room now
No, i'm not going their to cry
I'm getting this thing,
that I need for that guy,
the one I know,
from you remeber where ... !

Ciao

Yikes! That's pretty harsh!

At least you bought the right  bike ! Awesome

He said it!  I've always told people that if I could only have one bike (and I can...  Doh! ) that it'd definately be the KLR. Nothing comes close in do-it-all ability.  Yeehaa!

yikes  Our rego costs here for a bike 300cc-651cc is $479/year including compulsory 3rd party person insurance.  If you have under <300cc it is $197/year.  Not sure about >651cc but I think it drops less as the 300cc-651cc is classed as the highest risk for accidents. And the ACT in Australia where I live is more expensive then other states in Australia.

But we do pay more for our bikes.  My 2010 KLR cost $8510 including on road costs ($479 above plus 2.5% stamp duty for a new vehicle).

DanD, I would suggest that picture above is dull and boring.  Where is the beach, sand and sun?  Now that would make an exciting winter.  Actually why bother with winter lets keep it summer all year round!
Snow after the first 5mins is just cold and wet (clearly I don't snow ski  That's funny !).

Cheers

@Hurricane

Actually, I sold my klr and bought a Versys, cut my insurance by $100/year (weird thing, our insurer in Quebec charge more for a DS bike than other ... go figure)

@ DonD
This picture is cheating a bit, the snowblower has past on this street and has blown the snow on the front yard
BUT
It does sometimes happen, big snowstorm and we are left with maybe a foot or two of snow, that's for 1 storm (one day maybe less)
In 1971, a snow storm rode across quebec and left an incredible amount of snow in one shot, and the picture you posted was common site
Sometimes, the only way to figure where was the house was to search for the chimney, and digg around that chimney to find the entrance door
It took a week to get the street cleared (minimum clearance, simply enough for the emergency vehicule to pass)

In 2008, just before Christmas, we received around 4 feet of snow in a week in a half, that was a bit tough on moral !

And I don't live in a region that receives the most
Some place in Canada do receive a LOT more

Now I have a sense of pride about this (a bit childish), but since I started riding, I always hope for winter too be as short as possible

@ Piffy

The fee I was mentioning didn't include the third party insurance, which is included in our personal insurance, not the plate fee, but your's are also expensive

@ Everybody

What do those look like in the US ?

Anyway

Ciao All

This came up at lunch today and I understand the cost for tags on your car is much cheaper and that it is an effort by the Government to discourage young riders because of the number of crashes. If so, I'm surprised it's legal.

FWIW we talk about snow everyday at lunch.

Hi Blues

The cost of tag for my car (and all other cars) is 261, I don't know how this compare to your's

And of course, since we are praticaly neighbours, you also have big snow storm and accumulation

And sorry I don't get exactly what should be illegal
The price of those tag ?
Or the fact that "kid" with no experience ride crotch rocket ... ?
And they don't discrimnate for the age, I'm 46 and I will still pay that 600+ a year

@ DonD
You seem to have a nice collection of those pictures
When the "BIG" storm hit us in '71, everybody opened their door to find that kind of accumulation ...
Did you see the snowmobile on the roof ... Crazy

Bonsoir Lours,

Sa va?

In Vermont the annual registration fee for cars is pretty cheap ( you probably don't want to hear it ) and motorcycles are a little bit cheaper than that if I recall. Each State is different.

It would seem to me that if the Government purposely set the rates higher for motorcycles than cars that such a thing could be challenged in court as a form of discrimination. I know there have been some protests by riders and I am sure many have tried to think of a way to change the law. It is unfortunate for sure.

Just recently we had the all time record snow storm in the Burlington area with 34 inches ( .87 m ) of snow in 24 hours. It was the first time my snow blower failed to start so I had to borrow a little one from a neighbor. Ugh.

If you have a Purple Heart it's free plates in some states.  It's a crappy way to get out of paying all that money for registration.
