Just wondering if anyone knew of a cheap DOT full face helmet that had little to no padded lining in the inside. I hate having to wear 2 inches of padding in the summer in my helmet and have to believe there is some sort of exo skeleton type I can buy. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

I like the fulmer that i just bought.  I haven't gone through a summer with it yet but....  I think it was around $130 but you can't quote me on that.  I am having memory issues.

Steve's right. That's a Fulmer Dalton Highway model. Never saw a green one though. Got mine for $165 at the kawi dealer. Well vented and not hot at all. Check it out.

I run the Fulmer ADV (dual sport model) and I am not impressed. In the summer it does not move enough air, and in the winter when it is 10 or 20 degrees out, the face shield does not seal and stop the air.

Your soaked in the summer, and your frost bit in the winter.

I will be choosing a Joe Rocket RKT Hybrid Helmet (about $160) or the AFX FX-37 (starting at about $90) , both are dirt cheap helmets (as far as helmets go) and might prove to both cool better and keep my face from falling off in the winter better.

Im really considering the Joe Rocket one. I have so far liked all Joe Rocket items I have owned.

Steve,

Heading out to work on a brisk 10 or 20 degree day is very fun. You stop for a coffee and every person that walks past you while you lean on teh KLR sipping a hot coffee does one of a couple things:

1) Look at you as if you are a complete and utter idiot.
2) Look at you as if you must be the biggest idiot to walk the world.
3) Look at you like #1 or #2 and ask you if it is cold enough for you yet.
4) Stop and talk to you and tell you how they also ride in cold weather, much colder than this actualy... and then run back to thier truck and dive into the heated leather seats and pull away with the heat on high!

I get a kick out of it. And I get looks at the red lights.... and kids point at me from the back seats as if I am doing something unusual.... It is funny. This morning was warm, it was 28 when I left the garage. It will be 35'ish when I head home.

At this point in the year here in Pittsburgh, it will not get under 30 degrees much more, so I'll not drive my car or truck now much at all. If it will be raining non stop for days... I will give in and drive the Excursion.... but otherwise I'll do the 30 mile each way commute on the KLR650 or the KLX250. As it gets warmer and dryer, the KLX250 I just bought will get put in play a lot more!

For Christmas I got an AFX DS37 Full face dual sport helmet. Haven't rode with it on in hot weather, but it sure flows air in the cold weather. It actually flows more air then my open front dirt bike helmet.

I understand that you say it flows great air, but can you control this and disable this airflow for fridged cold weather use?

There's a review for the AFX helmet:

PM Gunny about riding in the heat. I'm sure he'll know.

I ride in cold weather, and it is cool, but I usually wear a balaclava under my helmet and its not bad. I guess you could always use duct tape... That's funny !....ok, just kidding.

Larry0071 said it all clap people don't understand how much fun these KLR's can be.I have the same response here in western NY when the temps. are below 40.Dress for the conditions, that's all. It's a blast-My bike seems to have a lot more "giddy-up" once tires are up to temps. The cold air is just part of the fun,I keep mine below 70 on the days under 10 degrees or the knees get cold. That's funny !

The AFX DS flows a ton of air. It's cooler in the heat than anything else I've used and eliminated all fogging issues during the winter. Only a Little louder than my scorpion street helmet. I like it anyway. Even gave It a good highspeed crash test on the pavement and it performed well. Not bad for $90. :)

I wonder if you can get your hands on a Nascar racing helmet, then connect the hose to an ice pack on the bike that will force air through the ice and into the helmet.....that would be sweet  Yeehaa!
