Yeah SLO...that's just what he said.
But he was absolutely the picture of an old HD bagger driver so I wasn't really surprised.
The funny thing was how much he liked it yet still said what he did about owning one. But hey, I rode a buddy's bagger the other day and actually liked it & had fun.
But I wouldn't want to own one... I'm cruizin'

Darth,

I found that owning one isn't too bad.........it's just kinda embarrassing.

Ok...I'll give the XLR that title...

But how about this hybrid?
1987 GSXR 750 rolling chassis that we cut in half, stretched 12", and crammed a 1977 Ironhead Sportster engine into!

We call it the...

Cool! Have you run it yet? Gas or fuel?
Going to run at Bonneville or just Maxton?

Just Maxton...137mph so far on gas. We've had some head work done now, and need a bigger carb.

Good deal! You guys know my buddy Randy Smith from Murphreesboro, IL? He's been running a BMW airhead A/PS, but is now building an A/PS with a Buell de-bored & stroked to XR750 dimensions.
Will run on gas at Maxton this year, and add turbo next year for Max & Bonneville.
We got a record on the BMW of 135 at B'ville last year...not too bad for an old airhead 750. I think that bike had another 5-10MPH in it but he sold it to finance the new one.[url=http://www.motorcyclistcafe.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6042]]http://www.motorcyclistcafe.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6042]http://www.motorcyclistcafe.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6042

I haven't met him yet, I only went twice last year, and probably only make the october meet this year.
The Buell build sounds cool!
I heard that a couple of R1's got stolen from the track and a motel parking lot during the last meet...what a shame!
I started racing there back in 2000...I can remember making 15-20 passes per day back then, it's very crowded now!

this bike does not make 100 hp or high torque. my BUELL Makes 103hp from the factory using an Evo motor. Buell did it right not harley. High torque is 90+

Harley Davidson has no ama superbike championship. Not a one! And it took one of there employees to improve there motor I.E. THUNDERSTORM HEADS,  DDFI Fuel injection, Xb heads with the bath tub style(now used and called Xl1200 heads), Single beehive valve springs, Single piece push rod covers

Since this thread got ressurected - I gave up my xr1200 piggy-bank.  Waaaaa!   it's just not going to happen anytime soon.

instead, I'm going to "supermoto" the klr, much like emjayw's or this one:

http://www.southbayriders.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60901

There's really no comparison, but at least I'll be able to cut-up on the roads, and be more comfortable out on the highway-

Only 750 available in the U.S. Of those only 350 had been sold so far according to the fiiend who bought one. Likelyhood of pickin' up a used one cheap are about zero.

I don't know if this is cheap or not but there a quite a few out there for sale.  Here are a couple examples.

The difference between the sporters are the way the heads are designed....Not only do they employ the Xl1200 attributes in the heads and the bathtub style intake ports (that BUELL motorcycle company made\designed and HD stole and is using it for themselves) The heads have a little more to them like behind the valves there an oil feed that squirts oil on the back side of the valve(s) and the valve seal to help with cooling. The shifter linkage on this model is also weak and flimsy. And it wont break 75 ftlbs from the factory. It is sad that harley has to have a pro racer come in to help design the suspension for it. Harley never could never get it right and dual spring shocks are not the right way! I am not impressed with it and i have ridden it and i am ashamed to say i rode it. The company that built my race bike motor had one in for a heads upgrade when it was first released. It was not powerful enough from the showroom so the customer was having it beefed up. LOL beefed up! Harley's are junk and the company is dying and i will be there to shovel some dirt onto the HD coffin. BUELL OWNERS UNITE WORLDWIDE FKHD!!

I've never owned a Harley, but this is the only one I've considered owning:
