Looking for a more hwy oriented bike for the stable.   Just for some 200+ type runs, or maybe a 5-600 mile day run.  Not really interested in any gravel road capability the wee could give.

Also, most likely never a passenger.  Just luggage for a few day away from home.

Both used and close to my budget.

2000 Connie, some mods, 54k miles $2k
2005 wee, only mod is rear case, 10k miles $3k

For the  one grand price difference I would take the wee being 5 years newer and 44k less miles.  Thats my 2c.

Hmmm I've gotta '99 Connie and it's the most damnn fun bike on the slab I gotta tell ya.  Puurfect for Sport touring, 0-127mph rode mine around all the states and most of Canada for 2yrs till I got the KLR.  With a sheepskin I've done many 750-1,000+mi days on the stock seat.  I just spend too much time in the dirt now Happy!

Did I mention rain and wind protection par excellence on the old carbureted Connie.... unless it's a toad strangler you can ride through most showers without your rain gear.  Now listen up.../ and keep the legs cozy down to about 46deg before even putting your pants on  :Hap1:b]

Bought a 94 Connie fixer.  Lots of bad shade tree mechanics lead to good buys for decent mechanics.  Paid 500.  Has <24k .  A slow speed dump so there is some rash and broken peg.  Said he gave it new plugs but it still ran a little rough.  Found 1 spark plug wire just barely sitting by the plug.  Can' t be a good thing.  To demo run it,he grabbed a gas can from the shed.  It must have been a few years old an?d thermal can added a lot of rust flecks to the Connie tank.  Tank s flushed, cards will get a simple sea foam bowl soaking/flush,  new fuel filter and we will see if it fires up.

I bought my 2001 Connie 2 yrs ago $2,500.  Love it! fast enough, torquey, a real workhorse!
I put tires on her and had the carbs cleaned and sync'd and she roars! never had to do anything else.
Now has 33,000 miles. Very solid platform and very comfortable at Interstate speeds. I like the fact
that the model years coincide with the KLR history. Parts are very easy to get. It can be a pig in the
parking lot but really rides awesome otherwise. The Wee is a 650 right? I would opt for the Connie.

Tried working the carbs, but failed.  They will be on their way to Florida tomorrow.  Gives me some time to work over the road rash on the fairing.

Have an '86 bought in Dec.from an old friend who bought it new .
.It had set, due to an injury, in his garage in Fl for YEARS!
Now mechanically & some cosmetically "restored" and running great!
Good companion to the KLR, and as others have said, great slab burner and tourer. The bride LOVES the Rick Mayer seat!

Got an '05 Connie with 46k now, bought it with 17, after sitting.  Cleaned the carbs, runs fine.  Good straightforward bike.  As others have said, there's good weather protection, great forum/parts/farkles support, fantastic paved-road cruiser.  It is a handful in the parking lot or on dirt roads.  I just got a KLR because I like touring/camping and always wanted to go further up those dirt roads than the Connie was happy with.
