Trying to lower my wifes klr 650 3-4" anyone using the progressive 1"lower shock and 1 1/2" lowering links. I don't think just 3"lower links would be the answer, but i might make a set just to try.She has trouble getting on and off not so much once she gets going. May also get a lower seat, but would like the whole seat lower not just the front section. She 5'8"with a 31"inseam don't dare to say how much she weighs

stand on the left peg getting on and off. If you have to, lower an inch or two and shave the seat for the rest.

The shorter shock is the right first step. Slide the forks up in the triple clamps to level out the front. Do with a lower seat wether you by one or DIY. that should get it low enough w/o using the lowering links. Lowering links take away some leverage from the shock which makes the suspension sag more. If you have to use the links go with the 1.5", 3" will make the suspension very soft.
As for getting on and off, have her do like whitebread suggested and stand on the left peg to get on and off.

Like everyone has mentioned...-1.5" links, shorter shock, and then try this...

I also will say it is a matter of confidence. She is taller than I am and with a 1-1.5 in. longer inseam too. So I think she has to grow more confidence.
I will suggest she tries this a lot more, the lower seat is the thing I would do. and then (ONLY) other stuff if she is still not comfortable.
Also it comes to strength and ability to lift the bike to a center position to get started.
And the last trick is taller MC boots! when I got my Icon shoes that made me 0.5 in taller, and that did make a difference

+1. also make the sidestand foot larger, there is less worry on softer ground.

Hi Folks
Allot of discussion about shocks and links... but is there a set of {used}wheels off a smaller bike that can Fit a KLR? I have noticed many motard bikes with smaller wheels and they look pretty awesome..

I don't know of any wheels off of another bike that would be a direct bolt up to the KLR. What most guys have done is lace a new rim onto the stock hub.

I think this is not that bad, she will get experience and will learn to ride better in a none intimidating way, the KLR is very tall and if you don't trust it, IT WILL DROP You!
do you want to ride with her? XT is the way for her to come.

When I bought mine 4 years ago I had a choice between a stock bike and one with a lowering kit. I do not regret it for one min. I use the one peg methed to saddle up. I don't even have to tip toe at stop signs lol...
