Put the Stainless braided brake lines on front and rear. they are working great.  Plus the speed bleeders made it very easy to bleed the lines. Very nice, from klr650.com for like 56 bucks the whole kit.  installed a UNI air filter. Fought putting on a Maxxis 6006 tire FOR HOURS! I got it on. PINCHED THE DANGNABBIT TUBE! SOB! SO now I have to take it off again and replace the tube. Its ok about the tube tho, the  valve stem looked rusty and about to erode me to a flat, so no biggy. Its a dunlop tube made in thailand. The Maxxis has a 4 ply outer wall. Not an easy install, IMO, but worth it when you get it right. IMO

I also changed the oil, had like 20 miles since rebuild. I installed the magnetic lo-pro plug. Hey on a bright note, the oil looked pretty good, but the filter is full of metal shavings. HMMMMM?

Anyway I rode it some this weekend. Worked on it alot! Stilll have progressive springs to do, subframe bolts, 14 tooth sprocket, handlebar heaters, and more. The Nelson Riggs SPort tailbag is really nice also.

She is running great tho........... :tmv

I forgot to chock the brake pads and the caliper moved in while changing the tire. MY Dang KLR takes a hercules to move it.No biggy just need to take it all apart, and drain the system, then I can get it right. Loving the Nelson Riggs CL-150 Sport Tailpack. Also loving the Clymer Manual, and of course all of your posts explaining your experience in these areas. Marty and Pat, Cary Gadget, I could go on and on.

Another temporary thing you can do to help remove any particles is to tape a round, flat magnet to the oil filter cover. Then when you remove it, any ferrous metal should be stuck to the cover.

I have these magnets on the oil filters on both of my Jeeps.

The oil filter media should be fine enough to catch most of that, but super fine stuff may get through.
The question remains: Where is it coming from? A very small amount is normal, but much is cause for concern..

I believe that the cam journals in ZeZe's KLR shredded and he had to rebuild the engine.

ZeZe, is that right?

Marty, i used Castrol 4T Motorcycle Oil(10W40). It was more expensive than I wanted to spend, because, I will be changing oil in just a week or so, after I get the tube fixed and throw another 100 miles on it. Im not an oil expert, tho. Just figure i use Castrol in my Ranger since 97 when I got it new, and I have about 125K and a tech has never been under the hood, and aside from general maintenance, filters, plugs, fluids, battery, I have actually never done anything tech to it.

As far as being "FULL" of shavings. Well there are some, not sure if it warrants any real paranoia, although, I am definatyely keeping a close eye on it, cause I been there you know.

From what I was told by mech, the doo sping broke, rode the cam chain up and through the sprockets and through the timing off, after, that It is really not exactly clear. The Cylinder was scored and I got a new one of those plus it got completely rebuilt with new rings etc.... He basically had to tear down the whole motor to find the rest of the spring.  It actually feels really tight right now.. B4 I never remember the front paw coming up on accell. It will do that now. Also the good peoples put the new doo and spring in for me. No charge. ;)

Its good to have it back in my garage, although I still need to get the tube replaced before I will be riding again.
