Hey MSGT-R how tall are you or what is your inseam.  I've been looking around for a bike for my wife and I'm trying to get an idea of how tall those bikes are.

Wow is that gorgeous!  I only have the KLR and have been contemplating the KLR in the hope that I'd be able to play off road on the more technical stuff.  Is is worth it to have both, and should I buy the new one or buy used.  The new one sure is SWEET!!! I'm whipped !  Thanks for the pics MSGT-R!

Man, that is one good lookin' bike! Well, except for that silly grab strap on the seat.

They really spiffed it up nice....

MSGT, if I can lower a KDX, you should be able to lower that KLX too. When I first sat on it while on the stand, both my feet were abuot 4" off the ground!  yikes  Now I've done links, suspension changes, seat shaved, forks up in the trees a bit....just sayin'...... Awesome

(Oh, I'm 5'2" with 29" inseam....)

Ooops!

I just saw 26" inseam! My word, I didn't know there were folks shorter than me! I thought I had the market cornered on short legs.

Yep, that would be quite the lowering job.

But ---- that sure is a nice bike.   naughty

Unfortunately the trade off for good long travel suspension and offroad ground clearance is a high seat hight. Cheers!

Ron,

I can say with absolute certainty that the KLX250S is up to the challenge to haul your booty around.  As you know, I have you by a "few" pounds and I had a blast on my KLX250S.  I would love to still have it, but I don't have the luxury of indulging my MBD tendencies like some other lucky dogs on this forum.

I can't say enough good about the KLX250S.  It's a great bike.  Like most dual sport bikes, it comes fairly bottled up from the factory, but after a few easy cheap/free mods, it's very capable.  Much like it's big brother that we all know and love, it's not going to win Dakar or anything, but it's a great trails bike.  Good inverted front suspension.  Tunable rear suspension (within limits of course).  Responds well to jetting & other unbottling techniques.  Decent aftermarket part availability because it shares so many parts with the KLX300.  In fact, the KLX300 cylinder provides a great path to increasing the displacement from 250cc to 331cc.  With that power plant in the nimble frame of the KLX you've got a force to be reckoned with.

It would be a nice compliment to that crotch rocket you call a sport tourer!   Greenie

The resale on them is pretty brutal, so you if you are patient you can probably find one used for a decent price.  I sold mine for a song because I was so anxious to get a KLR.  Luckily I got a good deal on my bike so it all worked out.

Chris is right.  Worst case you need some springs.  The rear spring is probably borderline for you and the front springs would be too soft, but depending on how hard you ride you may get by with the stockers.  A pair of front springs would run you around $110 and are very simple to install:

I'm about 185 lbs and the rear spring was fine for me.

Nobrakes, what in the heck did you do to that triple clamp (hack saw marks)..

I got a little "design" happy one weekend and replaced the stock instruments with some electronics of my own design.  That was where the steering lock and ignition switch "hoop" were.  They were in the way of where I wanted to install my instruments.

I ended up replacing that top triple clamp when I sold it, so it was a fairly expensive experiment.  I'm older and wiser now.   Now listen up...  It worked great for me, I just didn't think any new owner would appreciate it as much as I did, thus I reverted it back to stock before selling.

But hey, it made for a great jig to hold the forks while I worked on them.  Happy!

I sure like the looks of that new KLX. Seat height would be no problem for me but that skinny seat might be.The stock KLR650  seat is bad enough.

MSGT-R,
I have a friend who is looking at that new 2008 Honda CRF230L. He is vertically challenged and has a bum hip joint so throwing a leg over a tall bike is not an option.
I know this is a Kawi site but you look good on that Honda.Just saying.  thumb

Yeah,(noticed the frown) I doubt the(Honda) 230 would be a dirt-roosting white knuckle ride, but the six speed should allow it to have a decent road speed.

The Yamaha XT-225 is supposed to be an all-new 250 for 2008. Don't know about seat height though.Lots of happy owners of those bikes out there.

The search continues?  Will I get in trouble for saying Honda and Yamaha?  laugh
