New Bike

Just got back from the dealer in Alabama with the new KLX out the door 4700. I believe Im going to like it better than the KLR. I am breaking it in under the motu method. Two or three heat cycles and change the oil. Its got a nice little hit at about 7k. Tomorrow I will be changing the oil. I already adjusted out the suspension still to soft for my fat arse. I still cant believe how nimble it is, it feels like a mini bike. The tour is going to be a blast. Any body got an idea on gas milage, I ride it hard. Duane5157

Congrats!! Now I'm totally jealous
I've riden with a few that have them. I'm told about 100miles to the tank. Marty has links for the aftermarket larger tank and a bunch of really great mods. Search the site. There's all sorts of stuff to make you smile even more!
OOOooohhh I want one. :dev

Hey buddy, welcome back from the big sandbox!
I have the parts and pieces to make your bike run much better.
If you're not working yet, let's get together and you won't believe the difference between how good it runs now and how good it can run!

Marty,
I got the klx and I ordered parts from Ron Ayers. They should be hear by Monday. Once I put new pilot and main jet in will I need to drill out the exhaust or find a slip on.

On the muffler, let me be perfectly honest. The bike kind of sounds like a 3.5 hp Briggs & Stratton lawnmower with the standard exhaust on the bike. With the first baffle drilled out, it sounds like a 3.5 hp Briggs & Stratton lawnmower with a louder exhaust on it!
I purchased a slip-on exhaust from HMF Engineering. Nice piece of craftsmanship!
Now, here is some magic for you, go to
HMF Engineering's Site
and take a look around. There is an excellent article on how to modify the KLX250S - lots of excellent pictures and a procedure that will keep you out of trouble - you don't still have that 3/4 drive torque wrench, do you?
If you join their website, you will save $20 on the purchase of one of their products. I used that $20 to buy the "Quiet Core" that works very well in the exhause. If you check their dyno runs, they have run with and without the "Quiet Core" installed and there is no power difference.
There is however, a large amount of sound difference - here's a couple of videos to let you make your own mind up.
HMF Exhaust with "Quiet Core" Installed
HMF Exhaust without "Quiet Core" Installed
Which sounds better? Stock or HMF?

Marty,
That hmf really sounded good. I cant wait to get the mods done. I already have 75 miles on it and have changed the oil. Some sparkles but not to many. I just cant get over how nimble it is compared to the klr. No the big torque wrench has been put away.

Wow, I'm certainly glad to hear that the big-a$$ torque wrench is gone! Now wander over to sears.com and get yourself a 1/4 inch drive set. I've got a set with large numbers laser cut into them. No longer have to hold the sockets above the rim of my glasses to read the dang numbers! Then arrange them all in a magnetic tray and you'll be set to do it all.
Yes, when compared to the KLR650, the KLX250 is quite nimble.
I'm going to put a set of rim locks on the bike when I change tires. That's what those second holes are for in the rims. Then you can run very low tire pressures and not pop a valve stem.
Yep, this bike is set up for off road riding and Kawasaki just decided to put some dualsport gear on it and make it road legal - except in California! But heck, they've got the "Governator!"
With the mods in you'll be able to ride up and down hills and pretty much keep up with the guys on the KLR650's. Have you gotten a 13 tooth countershaft sprocket? That in itself makes a huge difference!
We need to contact DRZ Bill and tell him you're calling him out!

Marty,
I havnt got the 13 tooth sprocket yet. It is one the items I ordered from Ron Ayers. I did adjust the suspension out, but I can see a new spring in back and some different fork springs also.

I have contacted John at
Moto-Pro Suspension
.
This is one of the only, if not only suspension shops to make springs specifically for the KLX250S. Many others are simply selling you springs for the KLX300, which are shorter in overall length.
I have ordered "Security Squad Sized" fork springs and shock spring.
Once they come in, I will be writing an installation procedure and posting in on this site.

My wife is wanting to start DS and we found a 2007 klx250 for $3650 here local. It has clocked 761 miles, is show room bright and has been treated with great care. The owner needs to part with a few toys to buy his next adventure. Sound like a good deal?
