Hi, I'm new the forum. I have a 2011 KLR from new and have only 1200 miles on the clock.
I did the 22 cent mod and have been monitoring the mpg. I could feel a difference in performance after the mod and started checking my mpg.
Driving through twisty roads up and down hill sometimes aggressively I am getting 50mpg. The bike is carrying no extra luggage and I weigh about 190lb with gear.

Is 50 mpg about right for this bike ? I know I've read some people getting 59-60 mpg .Just wondered  Hmmmmm...

All depends on your riding style, type of tires and Terrain. but yeah, 50 sounds about normal. I ablverage 48 -52.

I was getting mid 50s reliably during the break-in period on my 2012 when I was never going over 4000 rpm. Now that I'm past that and riding more aggressively, I'm closer to 50, sometimes a bit under. Shift early, and stay off the super-slab, and you could probably get 60.

Anybody check how accurate their odometer is?

Comparing my GPS mph to my 2011 KLR's speedo, my speedo is about 1 - 2 mph high.

My average mpg is in line with that stated above, if using my bikes speedo. If I use the GPS, it's about 2 - 3 mpg less.

Eek, something must be wrong with mine. Stock internals, fairly easy on the throttle, I weigh 170, and I'm averaging 46-48 mpg. Sheesh.

My average mpg is in line with that stated above, if using my bikes speedo. If I use the GPS, it's about 2 - 3 mpg less.

Most people find that while the speedo reads a few MPH high, the odometer is accurate to 1-2%.

Funny in Aus 91 is the lowest octane ive seen 95 being regular and 98 being the good stuff (that i use).. other day out back i even saw 100 Octane!

The US measures octane as the mean average of the RON and MON measurements. Other countries measure it differently.  I found that out while living in Germany and being astonished that mid 90's were the usual grades, with 100+ occasionally available at the pump. (something you'd only usually find at the airport in the US.  naughty )

In any case, 50 MPG has been my average with most tanks being a good mix of ride it like you stole it, and normal "flow of traffic" riding. I've seen it as low as 40 with lots of slow technical off roading, and as high as 60-something while doing gentle touring at high altitudes.

Not sure what my mileage is as I haven't had the oppertunity to fill the tank and divide it out (I'm keepin it low 'cause I got to pull the tank when I do the thermobob this week), but I do know , and this what is important to me, how far I can go on a brim full tank, and it's over 260 miles with mixed riding, town, stop and go, a little dirt and freeway.  That's pretty Ok the way I see it.  I hit reserve right at 260.  Now what, carry a gas can and see how far reserve goes?  Probably not but I should huh....

I get about 42- 44 mpg on my '08. No engine mods, but full time saddle bags, no highways. Looks like I'm the loser in the MPG derby.  Arrrrg!

I ride mostly street, 95/5. My MPG is anywhere from 54 to 60. I have a 06 and I'm fairly easy with the right grip.  Ride on!

MC2U,
Where do you live??  flatlands or the mtns ?   15T sprocket runs 500 rpm higher than a 16T  and mpg goes up fm mid 50s to low 60's... stay easy on the throttle avoiding hard accelerations, and get up to cruising speeds without winding out the Rs in lower gears for long periods....
I've gotten 260 miles on the tank b4 flippin' the reserve...w/ 16T and riding sensibly...less when radical.

I have almost 1300 miles on my KLR and I ride on rolling hills and twisty roads. I've been doing the throttle roll on and offs during the breaking in period. I would like to get a 16T sprocket and I need to adjust the chain tension too.
I don't ride fast for extended periods, infact I've only taken the bike to 70mph a few times. I haven't ridden the freeway yet but here is a lot of stopping and starting with tight bends and stop signs.
Cheers

"cities have to post ethanol percentages on pumps in us"
I like that stations are wise to this ethanol fraud...they put up signs like...     "REAL GASOLINE...ETHANOL FREE"    Those are the stations I trade with.
