If you are on the short size I would go with the Sargent. If you are on the tall side I would go with the TPI Flat.
I am 6'2" and tried both. I found the TPI a better fit and more comfortable for taller individuals.
A flatter seating surface without a tilt toward the tank. Easier to move around on while riding. Placed me in a more comfortable position for shifting and rear braking.
Your results may vary!

That gap on the Sargent would drive me crazy. This is the second post I've seen now where a sargent seat has done that.
If jade's pic #5 is what you are refering to, the seat is not installed properly. The tab on the bottom of the seat is not under the frame loop like it should be. I've done it by mistake with my Corbin as well.

Are you sure? I can swear I did it properly. I guess it won't hurt to take it back off to double check.

I'm pretty sure. The seats when new fit very snug so ya need to make a special effort to keep the front of the seat down as you slide it forward. The seat should fit snugly against the tank. When you pull the seat of, look at where the tank bolts to the frame. You will see there is a small gap between the tank and the frame loop. The tab should go under that frame loop, not between it and the tank.

You know what DD? I have to thank you for reminding me. I just never got around to it. I've been enjoying riding so much now with my better reach to the ground, it just slipped my mind. I will make it a point for this to be one of the first things I do later today after I get some sleep. I don't know what the hell I'm doing up so late right now. Actually it's been a busy night. I will absolutly take it off, and do it over just to double check it. And I will post the results ASAP later today. Thanks again!!!!!!!

SLO-KLR, you were right, exactly right, I had it between and not under the frame loop, just like you said. I thank you for pointing that out. I didn't think that I could be any happier with my bike now, but I am.
As for a little updated post on how I like my seat, I've been taking longer rides ocasionally, and it remains very comfy for me. VERY PLEASED WITH MY SARGENT (LOW VERSION)!!!!!!!

Nice info on the seat. Saves me the trouble of deciding on a new seat. I want the Sargent Low. Does anyone know where to get a good price on one? Or do I have t get it from Sargent for 349.95?

Hey Joe,
I also got mine from solomotoparts because of the lowest price and availability. They were good to deal with, and I got it fast, it stinks that they're on backorder. For the hell of it, check this place out,
http://www.motostrano.com/sakaklse.html.
Here the seat is listed for $329.00, but, they claim they will beat any price that you tell them about if it's cheaper than theirs. Give it a shot, and let me know.

Thanks for the help. I'll give them a try when I am ready to buy one and see if they are true to their word.

I went ahead and ordered the "Russell All Day Saddle", for my new "Black", 09 KLR. My build date is May 9TH. I sure hate having to send my new 09 seat, in for the build though. Oh well...............

I'm sure your seat will be great. I highly considered the Russell Saddle for my new bike. What made me shy away from that was that I'd rather keep my stock set aside (while using my new Sargent). And then if or when I sell or trade my bike some day (not anytime soon) I figure that I'll put the stock back on the bike and make some extra bucks back by selling the Sargent (or keeping it for another new KLR).
I hope when you finally get your Russell, you'll post some pictures. What color bike did you get anyway?

I just installed the TPI comfort seat on my 08, and it feels like a nice upgrade over the stock seat. It's firmer, and gives me much more room to move around. I am impressed with the build quality too. One downside is that the TPI is a good deal wider at the tank than the stock seat. I'm 5'11" with a 32" inseam, with the stock seat I could just get heels down on the pavement, with the TPI I'm on my toes. I have a sheepskin on the seat as well, which I'm sure does not help much.

I purchased a "Black" Bike. I never ride trails and very seldom do I ride the forrest roads. I'll post picture's when I get the seat. My build date is June 9th with aa build time of two weeks. What impredded me about the "Rrussell", seat, is the fact that they have their own "FOAM" machine. They pour the foam for each custom seat they make.
