So awesome to find this site. The small amount I have read has been super helpful and really informative. There are some really truly knowledgable people on this board. Thank you to all.

Looking at a 2008 KLR 650 with 4000km, it is super clean and has lived in garage its whole life. Well except when ridden. Should I be concerned with the recalls I am reading of? I am having the bike checked over soon before the purchase. If I understand correctly,

Recall
Exhaust bolts not torqued?
Wiring harness?  Rubbing or what is that deal?
Turn Signals?  What up with those?

Thanks again.
Looking forward to being in the KLR family.

Welcome to the forum trailhed1. Glad you found us. Hope that what you read here is helpful.

How comfortable are you wrenching on your own bike?  Because most of the items listed on the recall can be handled  yourself with some good guidance from a maintenance manual and advice from those here with experience dealing with them.

I'm sue those here with the NG models like yours will chime in soon. Good luck.

Howdy Trailhed and  Welcome

I'd be concerned mainly about oil consumption in an '08. Not that it really bothered me that much with mine till I approached 20K miles. Not all the '08s consumed oil either, mainly just the early one I think. Somewhere on this forum is a list of the suspect serial numbers (a few years back). Maybe use this to knock the price down.

Blinkers? Mine still work. Exhaust bolts? Mine are still with me/ Wiring harness rubbing? That's under the tank. Get some split plastic tubing at a auto parts store or at Harbor Freight and wrap it around the wires. Has worked on mine for years.

I used electrical tape and wrapped all the wires....

BTW  Welcome railhed1
Regarding the bolts, they just need to be torqued correctly and turn signals, never had a problem....

Just buy a Clymer Manual, it will save you alot of dough, plus watch alot of youtube videos, search for KLR 650 and grab some popcorn....
