hi,

well I just read a Mexican mag that claims that the KLR has 45 hp and goes 185 km/hr and that translate over 110 mph, has anybody read/heard or can say it does happen? And the model they listed is a 2011...

I say they have a mistake there, and maybe introduce the bmw info in the wrong are since it was a bmw vs suzuki vs klr..
in case you want to practice your Spanish

Not sure if someone lighter would be able to hit 110, but riding two up, I hit 93 by the gps speedometer.  that was with no wind, downhill, on a very straight empty stretch.  guess I should go out to the same area, and test it with just me.  that's on my 2011, so same year that you mentioned.  Of course, I'm on Blue and silver, so it's the fastest anyway...other colors may vary.  Ride on!

The power figure give is optimistic, even in our best dreams we think of figures lower than that, so no idea as to wherre they got that number.  puzzled

Stock my bike could get to 127 km/h, due to the Australian restriction. Sad
Once the restriction was removed my fastest GPS reading has been 172 Km/h on a very nice long and straight private gravel road. Ride on!
Now listen up... Unfortunately due to a desire to keep my license  here's the deal-, I have not tested the maximum pavement speed, but it does seem reasonable to me that that speed could be achieved at close to red line rpm in good conditions.

Yeah....slight mistake... hp is closer to 36 on the '08's (that may be a tad generous) and later and geared properly it will do 110...it may take an hour to get there...!  That's funny !

My 12 would do 140 km/h with throtle to spare in fact it would roll from 100 km/h to 140 in about 3 seconds. Top end is great on my machine havent found its limits though. Maybe never will. here's the violin music...

For what it's worth, Motorcycle Consumer News tests the '06 at 98 MPH and the '08 at 93 MPH. MCN's top speed figures seem to be a bit slow. The last I knew they do a 1/2 mile run up for their top speed figures. Some bike would not reach top speed in that distance but I'm sure a KLR wouldn't have very much left after that 1/2 mile.

Calculated top speed at redline in 5th gear is 107 mph with stock gearing. The rolling circumference of different tires can change that a few mph either way. So if your bike can pull redline in 5th you are going probably between 105 and 109 mph (assuming the tach is accurate). Although the pre-'08s have a little more HP near redline I think that barn door fairing prevents them from reaching faster top speeds. I never tried a top speed run on my '06 KLR but I have pulled redline in 5th on my '08 with the speedo bouncing around between 105 and 110.

The fastest speed on GPS for my 2010 with a 16t CS was 92 mph on a calm day.  I am like a sail at 6'4" and at the time had a Givi E36 trunk on the bike.
