What were the details of the drop? Seems to have held up to the drop pretty well.

I was going around a ranger type blockade to access a trail, and cut it a little too much to the right on a 4 foot embankment (couldn't find a place for my foot) and landed really hard on the right side right on the fairing (pictured). It was hard dirt/clay and rocks.

Like I said, these babies seem to be up to the task.........

They don't?

If I didn't drag my bike under a fence or "not see" a few signs I'd loose a few good riding spots. :D

I'm convinced they put those barricades up in SoCal to keep the 4x4s from rolling off the road (inverted) and to keep the illegal dumpers from depositing their used couches and kitchen appliances up there.  soapbox

C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S ! ! ! ! !

The suspense of WHEN it was going to happen was probably overwhelming!

I know when I pull a new bike into the garage, I have seriously thought about just knocking it over to get the suspense of the first drop out of the way!

Yeah, i was considering that too. I've been thinking of getting an '08, if I did, I'd have to tip it over before I even put the keys in the ignition.  laugh

Les Stroud are you the "Les Stroud" or did you just choose that name because you liked him?  If you are the "Les Stroud" welcome and it is an honor to talk with you.

So now go out & buy protection for the other side.  You may get a discount for Half.
Noticed the signals are still there.

The good thing here is, that you are now a better rider.  Plus women from all over will come to you, just to see you wounds & listen to your account of ......just make it good.

So far, I have been impressed with the way the fairing is holding up.  The drop we had at TDT-II didn't seem to hurt the '08 bad at all.

I saw my first red, yesterday at our local shop.  It was at the dealership 2 days when a friend of mine bought it.  We had been talking about the red being our favorite color of the 3.  It's strange, because my 2 favorite colors, in general, are blue and green.  The others look great, just the red catches my eye for some reason.   puzzled

No pics for ya, but........................

The other night I went for a beach ride and hit a mud spot that instantly sunk the rear wheel to the hub.  The bike stalled so I got off and took a look.  The bike stayed vertical and I thought to myself "Well, that's one way to get a centerstand!"

There was no way for me to pick it up out of that soup so I ended up gently wiggling the bike side to side and lifting until I was able to lay it on it's side.  Then I drug it over a bit, stood it up and rode away..........at least to drier ground so I could do a quick safety check.

No casualty on the plastic except for the scratches from the sand.

happy-trail.com makes a great (albeit spendy, and slow to ship) nerf bar to protect those big ol' fairings.

Mine should be here early next week.

One note of warning.  If you do decide to order that part, be sure to order the new skid plate with it.  I made the mistake of not doing that, and will have to wait to install the bar until the skid plate shows up. I realized my mistake, and ordered the skid plate about a week ago.  The nerf bar was ordered on June 16.

Check out that skid plate carefully.  A recent post on the ADV forum showed that HT doesn't actually make that plate and the workmanship is not up to par.  Here's a link to the post:

I think I would have sent it back to them anyways.  Whether they made it or not it is their product and they should make it right.  That doesn't sound like the usual customer service from HT either.  To the best of my knowledge there should not be any issues with buying a skidplate for a prior model and installing it on an 08 because the frame and motor are still the same.
