What did you do to your KLR today??

I started a similar thread "elsewhere", and thought we'd give it a go here... I'll start...
Prior to today...
1) Pulled the kick stand switch assembly and bypassed that wiring.
2) Installed the HT nerf, skid, motor protector combo.
3) Had purchased one of the "5-Function Digital Meter" deals. Tried to water proof it and destroyed it. (that was 30 bones down the tubes)
4) Did the Mercedes Benz PVC mod... crazy easy to do!
5) Yanked my snorkel! Seemed to give it a little more umph in the low end!
6) De-californicated it. (what a waste of a bunch of plastic!) I did however reuse the long tube for my tank vent and routed it down where the wires for the kick stand wires used to go and snipped it off just below the frame. (I can take a pic if anyone is interested) I also used some of the attachment screws for the brackets to plug the two lines that go to the return line on the tank and the other vac line that attaches to the "T" for the vac valve on the petcock (which will be pulled as time allows!)
7) Installed a extra fuse box with switched and non-switched circuits.
Tusk hand guards.
9) Moved my under seat fuses to behind the little black LH side cover where the starter relay is.
10) Done the Doo!
11) Thermo-bob'd it!
12) Plugged the "Hole of Doom" with a 3/8" set screw.
13) Gel grips... they're starting to get "sticky" so I may yank them soon.
14) Throttle Rocker
Sitting on the shelf waiting to be installed are HID headlights, volt meter, some LED driving lights (if I ever finish building them!), and 12V lighter sockets (not really sure that I need them).
Today, I removed the stock rear turn signals and installed some smaller LED signals... basically, I didn't like the fact that I had to keep the rack supports "attached" to the rear fender when I took it apart because of the wiring. (yeah, I just went and checked... the wires pop right through the holes! Doh!) Oh well, no longer an issue. I have the bike apart because the two bolts just behind the tool pocket sheared off and in my attempts to remove the bolt tips I boogered up the threads... so now it's getting M8 hardware after I weld in new nuts in the bracket, and weld it back on the tube.
More to come! Who's next??
Chad
...oh and here's a shot of the new tail lights and wiring.
Enjoy!

I'd like to see some more info on the de-california job please. Also, does it actually do anything for performance and or gas mileage?

I did this a while back, so this is all from memory... pull the canister that's under the left rear cowl and it's associated tubing... IIRC, one tube goes to a tee at the carb that'll need to be plugged, and one goes to a breather tube on the back of the tank. I pulled one of the extra hoses and vented the tank to the ground.
The other piece that's connected to the metal tube on the head I removed all of that. To plug the hole in the head I cut the little nipple piece off that was in the hole and welded the hole shut... and bolted it back on. IIRC there's an o-ring on it so pull the o-ring off before you weld on it.
All in all, not much to it, just start pulling junk that doesn't make the bike run... no performance gains other than lost weight and decreasing the amount of crap you have to dig around when working on it.

back to your de-californication post...
I just bought a 2009 KLR that was originally purchased in Fresno, California. The guy moved to Huntsville, AL, where he sold it to the guy I bought it from. I bought it, and there is no california emissions crap underneath. The bike only had 900 miles on it, so I doubt that anyone yanked that stuff out already. Do the 2008 and up KLR's not have the california emmisions stuff?

I have an '08 that I purchased new in Oregon and it was a California model. Shortly after I bought it I removed the CA emissions from the bike. It took about 20 minutes to strip it off of the bike. It seems like a popular mod to do. Since yours doesn't have the emissions you may not find this helpful, but I followed these instructions for the removal.

Last weekend I cut down my seat. Probably going to pick up the walmart seat pad this weekend, to see if it helps my butt breathe a little bit. Riding in this 95 degree with high humidity, I tend to get home with a bad case of the swamp but.

Walmart ATV Seat pads are the cats pajamas. Especially for the 08 and up KLRs.
Anybodye else notice that the 08 and up KLRs have narrower seats? I remember my 05 KLR having a wider seat...not much wider, but wide enough.

LOL. I sold my 05 less than 2 years ago, and I've lost 10 lbs since then, so I'm pretty sure my rear end hasn't gotten any bigger. That was funny though!

Installed the FMF Q4 tonight. Gotta let it sit for the night so the high temp silicone can cure. The exhaust looks good, but the side panels on the 09 klr are alot larger than those on my 05, so it hides the beauty of the new FMF exhaust. Hopefully tomorrow it'll sound as good as it looks.

Still haven't had the chance to start up the bike with the new FMF on it. I checked the rtv hi-temp silicone that was protruding from where the midpipe met the header pipe, and it was still a bit sticky, so I'll leave it alone until this afternoon to cure. May even wait until after work tonight.

Soon as I get off work I'm putting on a new chain and sprockets... All primary drive from rocky mountain mc. I'm going back to 15/43 gearing and I got the gold x ring chain... $90 :)
After the 705 kit and head porting it seems to run down the highway at a lower RPM so I don't think I'll need the 16 tooth counter shaft sprocket any more.

high-side...just out of curiosity...if you noticed your RPMs are lower at highway speeds, by how much? Let's say, you are going 80mph...what is the rpm reading? I'm dying to know. I might to the 685 or the 705 over the summer, but I haven't gotten any clear info as to whether or not it helps with rpms at highway speed. I didn't think the increase in displacement would necessarily bring thr RPM's down. If so, that is awesome!
