Shock Type is a high performance linear piston type with speed sensitive shim controlled ports.
Gas charges with internal reservoir. (Floating piston type, using O-ring and Teflon Piston band)
Design Highlights
Wide range damping adjustment - speed sensitive damping.
Near infinite preload adjustment range.
Hard coated long life body design.
Fully serviceable and rebuildable.
Very low internal friction.
Extremely long life.
Inspection
Upon removing the shock from it's sock I was immediately awed by what I was holding -
The anodizing of the aluminum components was top notch, and the powder coated spring was a very nice surprise. I found the fit and finsh to be absolutely stunning. Let's take a closer look-
Here's is the top /upper portion of the Moab Shock. The collar is threaded onto a fine pitched main housing that offers an almost unlimited amount of preload adjustments. Rotating the collar up decreases spring tension and preload, and rotating it down will increase spring tension and preload.
Here is the bottom of the shock. As you can see, all of the pieces are precision machined with red anodizing on the damping adjuster and lower spring collar. The damping adjuster has 25 effective settings that is easily adjusted for riding conditions. As the adjuster is turned, there is a definite "click" for each adjustment.
Rick sets up each shock internally via valving & shims, then adjusts the damping as well for the new owner. Further details on this procedure will be covered later in the Adjustment section of the review.
